
World War II interrupted his college career and he joined the Navy V12 training program at Dartmouth. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1942 and started at Dartmouth College. He grew up in Leominster and his family spent summers at Long Beach in Rockport, Massachusetts, which fostered a lifelong love of the seashore. He was born on July 11, 1924, in Leominster, Massachusetts, the youngest of five children of William and Katherine (Lilley) Hart. He maintained his friendly and engaging personality to the end of his life. He was 90 and had been in declining health in recent years. died on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her son Roger Allen on September 13, 1971.Ī graveside service was held on June 1 at the North Troy Village Cemetery. She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Handy and her husband, Richard, of North Troy, Mary Brown and her husband, Arthur, of Derby, Hazel Santaw and her husband, Robert, of Newport, and Katherine Allen of Orleans she was Gram to eight grandchildren: Kenneth Handy, Theresa Fortin and her husband, Marcel, Carrie and Kristy Santaw, Kevin Allen and his wife, Kelley, Karen Miller and her husband, Arjay, Cody MacFarlane, and Liza Campbell 16 great-grandchildren and by three great-great-grandchildren. She loved to walk with her little tagalongs. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, attending adult day services in Newport and meal sites in North Troy, and doing activities with her grandchildren. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #28 of North Troy. On May 8, 1948, she married Richmond Allen, who predeceased her on July 31, 1971.ĭuring her lifetime she was a splicer operator for the Weyerhaeuser Mill in North Troy.

She was born on February 21, 1925, in Newport Center, to George and Mary (Horskins) Armstrong. Allen, 90, of North Troy died peacefully on May 28, 2015, in Newport.
