Similarly, you might open an existing document, make some temporary changes, and then close the document without saving those changes. For example, you might create a new document to use as a scratch pad or to test out a new feature. It's occasionally convenient to close a document without saving your changes. So then it asks me to rename my template. Then it says normal.dotm is in use by another process. Word asks me to save my normal.dotm template.
With Word still open, my computer won't shut down.
When I am turning off my computer, my Word for Mac 2016 won't close.
